As many of you know, Dave was #76 for the Ravens. He had no choice in this matter; the number was simply assigned to him when he was drafted. In high school football as well as college football he wore the #62 and it was near and dear to his heart.
The player who had #62 for the Ravens was from Mexico and had used up his 5 years of playing in the NFL this past season (There are special rules for players who are born outside the USA). He is no longer with the Ravens and is now coaching professional football in Mexico.
Dave was sad to see him leave, but also excited at the possibility that he could snag the #62. A couple of weeks ago, Dave nicely and politely asked (not demanded) his equipment manager if he could change his number from #76 to #62. The equipment manger said “we’ll see what we can do.”
Dave checked his “bio” on the Raven’s website today and to his surprise he is now #62!!!! He is very excited to be wearing the number that he is so comfortable with and that has special meaning. On the technical side, it looks as if Dave will mainly be an interior o-lineman, so it makes more sense for his to have a number in the 60’s anyway.
Unfortunately, if you have a jersey or a shirt with #76 on it…you are soooo 2008! hahah ;-). Apparently all of that merchandise will just have to be referred to as his “Rookie Number.”

why does 62 have special meaning?
#62, good to see you back!!! If I remember correct, Scott was #62, and that is the special meaning.
